Your driving history

While you are able to do cancel your policy after season is over, it’s not always the best option. If you cancel coverage on your RV when you’re not using it, the RV will have no coverage for anything that may happen to it while in storage. Although, t may be tempting to try and save some money but unexpected disasters like fires, floods, and theft can put your RV at risk if you cancel your coverage during the off-season. There are many carriers that have options for lower limits of coverage specifically designed for the off-season. This option allows you to keep the important coverages you need while you are not using your RV.

In the state of Florida, it is required by law for all motorhomes to be insured. Essentially, if you can drive it, You will need insurance for it. Campers, trailers, and fifth wheels that are towed behind a vehicle do not require their own insurance policy, but owners should consider purchasing ample coverage in the event of an accident. If you are financing your RV, your lender may require you to carry insurance regardless of what type of RV it is.

The minimum coverage you must carry on your RV in Florida is the same as the coverage required for other vehicles:

  • $10,000 Personal Injury Protection (PIP): This provides coverage for medical expenses for you and any of your passengers.
  • $10,000 Property Damage Liability: This provides coverage for damage caused to the other vehicle or property involved in the collision.

An Auto insurance policy is not designed for Recreational Vehicles. An RV has unique risk exposures and there are additional coverages that are important to consider to help protect your investment.

If you are enjoying your RV full-time as your residences, you may need to purchase additional coverages that a basic Recreational Vehicle (RV) policy doesn’t offer.

A full-timers policy is a perfect fit for you if your RV is also your primary residence, this includes the following coverages:

  • Personal liability: Liability coverage on a full-timers policy can protect you against liability claims, even while your RV is parked.
  • Medical payments: If someone hurts themselves in or around your RV, medical payments coverage may pay for their medical bills.
  • Loss assessment: Loss assessment coverage can pay for any fees charged for repairs by local associations.
